Implementation of WeHEAT technology in Kiskunhalas, Hungary

The Bundzsák Dezso Urban Sports Center in Kiskunhalas, Hungary will soon benefit from geothermal heating. The project will be executed by Hungarian company MS Energy Solutions Kft. with the help of a grant from the Swiss-Hungarian Cooperation.

A grant of HUF 251.33 million (approx. EUR 625,800) has been awarded to MS Energy Solutions under the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy sources thematic area of the Swiss Fund. Mátyás Gati, Managing Director of MS Energy Solutions, explained that the total investment for the project exceeds HUF 300 million. When implemented, the geothermal system in the sports centre can be a model for the modernization of heating systems of similar facilities including residential buildings, office buildings, and community spaces.

MS Energy Solutions will be deploying their WeHEAT technology at the Bundzsák Dezso Urban Sports Center. This is a deep geothermal probe operated in a completely closed system, built into the well structure of deep boreholes, thus allowing the heat found in the deep layers to be utilized with little loss. The borehole-free construction and the special internal thermal insulation system are much more cost-effective than other similar systems.

The WeHeat technology had previously been installed Hungary’s first closed-cycle geothermal heat plant from an abandoned oil well (located also in Kiskunhalas) back in 2021.

With the Swiss funding, the company will be able to utilize an unused and inert hydrocarbon well, which will be connected with a pipeline to a water-to-water heat pump and three heat exchange stations. The project is expected to deliver nearly 720 GJ/year of geothermal heat.
