The Dundas BRT Mississauga East segment is led by the City of Mississauga.
The Dundas BRT Mississauga East project, with an estimated budget of C$580 million ($417.7 million), is part of the City of Mississauga's broader efforts to enhance its public transit infrastructure. The budget includes costs for design, construction, land acquisition, and regional utility upgrades, all aimed at improving construction efficiency and minimizing disruptions.
As part of the project, Stantec's Water group, in collaboration with CIMA+, will be responsible for replacing approximately 12,500 meters of water main and 12,600 meters of wastewater main. To minimize community impact, the team will utilize trenchless tunneling and open-cut techniques. These infrastructure improvements will be carefully coordinated with the roadway construction to ensure efficient timelines and reduce disturbances.
The Dundas BRT Mississauga East project is also a key element of the broader regional transit expansion, supporting Metrolinx’s 2041 Regional Transportation Plan. Additionally, it aligns with the City of Mississauga’s 2018 Dundas Connects Master Plan, which seeks to promote urban growth while maintaining a commitment to environmental sustainability and community interests.
The BRT design will include dedicated median bus lanes and the integration of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to improve signal timings and prioritize transit. The new and upgraded stops will also be designed to ensure accessibility for all passengers.
Stantec will oversee a wide range of services throughout the project's lifecycle, including consulting, design, tender preparation, procurement support, construction, post-construction, and maintenance administration. The firm will also manage utility relocation, permitting, and approvals, with a focus on environmentally friendly practices to reduce the project's carbon footprint.
Stantec’s involvement in BRT projects spans across North America, and the company is currently engaged in several transit expansion projects in the Greater Toronto Area. Susan Walter, Stantec's executive vice-president of infrastructure, emphasized the importance of the Dundas BRT, stating: “The Dundas BRT will provide direct connections to urban light rail and the wider regional transit network, connecting mobility hubs and enhancing transit services locally and regionally. BRT solutions are a growing trend across North America, and we are excited to provide our expertise and support the City of Mississauga.”
In April 2025, Stantec also announced its agreement to acquire Page, further enhancing its architectural and engineering capabilities. This expansion underscores Stantec’s commitment to supporting the development of sustainable and efficient infrastructure projects across North America.
